"Joseph W. Witmer, J. Robert Wright, Editors".
"First printing, March 1986. Second Printing, October 1999" -- verso of t.-p.

"A compendium of the most important documents that have resulted from the Anglican-Roman Catholic dialogue. .... this publication was developed by the U.S. Catholic bishops' Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs and the Ecumenical Office of the Episcopal Church." -- blurb on back cover of "Common Witness".
"Significant agreements and statements have not been made just by the National Commission in the United States and by the International Commission; important developments have occurred in other areas of the world also. So it is that, in presenting this collection of documents, a number of items from other countries are included. All of the documents in this collection have been previously published, but not many of our readers will have ready access to the variety of periodicals and publications within which the contents of this volume are found. The documents are presented in chronological order, but, of course, more documentation is omitted than included". -- Intro. p. 2.

"This hymnal contains copyrighted compositions. Permissions for their inclusion were granted for use in all countries other than the United States. This hymnal is therefore not authorized for sale in the United States".
"Approved by the National Liturgical Office for use in Canada". -- p. iv.
"Two previous editions of the Catholic Book of Worship (1972, 1980) were warmly received by the Catholics of Canada. These were expected to last, respectively, five and ten years. With this experience, however, it was thought possible to produce a new edition for use by a whole generation. An extensive survey indicated both the strengths of these earlier versions and the expectations of any successor, and since 1987 a committee representative of the country worked assiduously on this project. It is thus to meet the stated needs of our parishes by providing a pastoral resource for the next generation that the Bishops of Canada offer to the Church this Catholic Book of Worship III." -- Foreword.
Foreword by Raymond J. Lahey, Bishop of St. George's [Nfld.], President, Episcopal Commission for Liturgy.
Contents divided into seven main sections: Sacraments -- Other Rites -- Liturgy of the Hours -- Lectionary Music for Sundays and Solemnities -- Music for the Eucharist -- Hymns, Psalms and Canticles -- Indices.
Approximately 695 hymns, chiefly in English, some in Latin or French. Almost all hymns include music.
"The Lord's Prayer" and "Baptismal Profession of Faith" printed on front endpapers. "Apostles' Creed in Question Form", "Apostles; Creed" and "Nicene Creed" on back endpapers.

"The National Conference of Catholic Bishops' Committee for Ecumenical and Interreligious Affairs recommended this publication, prepared in collaboration with the Episcopal Church and the Canadian Conference of Catholic Bishops." -- verso of t.-p.
"This series of groundbreaking texts [from the Anglican-Roman Catholic International Commission, ARC USA and ARC Canada] is published in one volume to provide resources for preaching, study, catechetical instruction, prayer, and reflection. The documents should encourage those who work to heal divisions. This series is also a reference work to aid leaders and scholars in giving authentic witness to the common ground these two Churches share in Christ. The documents here bring up to 1995 documentation previously collected and published (Wright/Witmer, 1985) that covers the period from 1966 to 1983. Some of these texts are available in the context of other ecumenical documents (Vischer, 1984; Burgess, 1989, 1995)." -- Intro. p. x.
