"Copyright The Secretary General, Anglican Consultative Council, 21 Chester Street, London SW1X 7BL, England". -- inside front cover.
The 1971 Anglican Consultative Council meeting in Limuru "thought that realistic planning for mission everywhere might be helped if more basic information were available. It asked the Secretary General (Resolution 1a) to gather information about the 'total amount, and objects, of help in manpower and money that each province or diocese receives from outside sources'. That, in part, was the origin of these tables of statistics. To 'manpower and money' it was possible to add new figures for 'membership' which had recently been compiled. Then a fourth ingredient was added, namely data about national economies in the form of average per capita incomes. All parts of the Anglican world have been treated alike. Difference between provinces will of course be apparent from the statistical tables, but no distinctions have been imposed in advance. .... Statistics for their own sake have little merit. They are not a means of grace. But neither is haphazard planning or proceeding by guesses and gaps. The purpose of all these figures is in some way to help the Anglican world Church to increase in the efficiency with which it serves Christ's mission, and in mutual care. We hope, too, that they may have some ecumenical usefulness and interest". -- Preface.
